Frequently Asked Questions
What is an optometrist?
Doctors of optometry (ODs) are primary health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye.
When should I schedule my first eye exam?
Even for people with no vision complaints, a comprehensive eye exam is an important part of maintaining good health. It is recommended adults have an eye exam every two years. People over age 60 should have their eyes examined annually.
When should I schedule my child's first eye exam?
Eye exams are also important for children, as they can’t always tell you how they see. School age children should have screening eye tests at school or at their doctor’s office annually. If these indicate a problem, a timely and thorough eye exam with one of our ophthalmologists or optometrists is recommended.
