Ames Surgery Center Scheduling Surgeries After Accreditation

The new Ames Surgery Center (ASC), a partnership of Mary Greeley Medical Center and McFarland Clinic, recently achieved a necessary certification to begin full operations of the outpatient surgical facility.

The ASC received its full 3-year accreditation from The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). In addition to AAAHC, the Ames Surgery Center is also licensed by the State of Iowa and certified with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Physician offices will now begin evaluating and scheduling patient procedures deemed appropriate for the Ames Surgery Center with procedures beginning in early March 2025.

"The opening of the Ames Surgery Center is a significant development for healthcare in central Iowa. The center will be convenient and accessible for our patients with care provided, in many cases, by healthcare professionals they’ve come to know and trust," said Andrew Perry, McFarland Clinic Chief Executive Officer.

The Ames Surgery Center is equipped for a variety of specialties such as gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology (ENT), podiatry-foot & ankle, and urology.

"Achieving AAAHC accreditation signifies that Ames Surgery Center has undergone a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation of its services, operations, and compliance with nationally recognized healthcare standards," said Traci Alberts, Chief Executive Officer for Surgical Management Professionals (SMP). SMP manages the Ames Surgery Center and has 30 years of expertise in surgery centers and specialty hospitals.
