What Immunizations Do Young Adults Need?

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and McFarland Clinic wants to share information about vaccines for people of all ages. This post reviews the important vaccinations for preteens and teens.

Do you know what vaccinations your child needs as they get older to protect them from diseases?

Preteens and teens need four vaccines to protect against serious diseases:

• Meningococcal conjugate vaccine to protect against meningitis and bloodstream infections (septicemia).
• HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine to protect against cancers caused by HPV.
• Tdap vaccine to protect against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis).
• A yearly flu vaccine to protect against seasonal flu.

Vaccinations for School

Kids who are starting school or going to college may need specific vaccinations. Speak with your teen's provider, school or local health department to learn more about those requirements.
