Rheumatologists are physicians (Internists) who specialize in the evaluation and treatment of diseases that affect the musculoskeletal system. Most commonly, this involves treatment of various forms of arthritis including, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, and more.

Rheumatologists also specialize in the treatment of connective tissue diseases including, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, scleroderma, polymyositis, metabolic bone diseases such as Paget’s disease, osteoporosis, and vasculitis. A rheumatologist is often the best specialist for the evaluation/treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
