The McFarland Clinic Neuroscience Department is dedicated to providing the highest quality medical care in a compassionate and cost-effective fashion.

Neurologists treat disorders of the nervous system and muscles. A neurologist is often consulted to rule out a neurological cause of unexplained pain.

The nervous system includes

  • Brain and spinal cord (and their coverings)
  • Cranial nerves connected to the eyes, face, ears, nose, and throat
  • Peripheral nerves which supply the arms and legs
  • Muscles of the body
  • Autonomic nerves which innervate the internal organs including the blood vessels and sweat glands

Our Services

Tests available to help in the diagnosis of neurological diseases include:

  • EEG (electroencephalography) brain wave analysis
  • Sleep study (polysomnogram) overnight test done at the sleep lab in the hospital to diagnose sleep disorders
  • Botox (botulinum toxin) therapeutic intervention used to treat excessive muscle contraction/overactivity.  That can result from several neurologic conditions including cerebral palsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, head trauma, dystonia, Parkinson’s Disease, and migraine or muscle contraction. See below for more information.
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • EMG/NCV (electromyography/nerve conduction velocities) The EMG/Neuromuscular program provides clinical and electro-diagnostic evaluation by our Neurologist. We diagnose and treat a wide range of neuromuscular disorders including peripheral neuropathy, ALS, muscle disease, spinal root disease, and Myasthenia Gravis
  • Lumbar puncture- a procedure to collect cerebral spinal fluid for diagnostic testing
  • Intrathecal baclofen pump management and troubleshooting for spasticity in adults and children populations
  • Vagal nerve stimulator management for epilepsy

Botox Treatment Program

For more than 20 years, the experienced staff at McFarland Clinic Neurology have offered medical Botox treatment. We would like to make sure you fully understand how botox may benefit your medical condition.

Typical Botox Treatment Plan

  • Botox is typically injected every 3 months (4 times per year).
  • It may take a few weeks for you to begin to see a response.
  • It may take additional treatments to get the best possible outcome.
  • Please continue your botox treatment per your provider's directions.

How We Work with Your Health Insurance Plan

  • Most insurance plans offer coverage for medical botox.

  • Our clinic will submit a request for approval on your behalf.

  • If your insurance requires that you use a specialty pharmacy, please answer their call to arrange for the delivery of your botox.

    • The call may come from an unidentified phone number.

    • Please contact our office 3 weeks prior to your appointment if your plan requires a specialty pharmacy.

    • Please notify our office if there are any changes to your contact information or health insurance. 

Commercial Insurance

What is a neurologist?

A neurologist is a medical doctor who has additional training in diagnosing and managing disorders of the brain, nervous system and muscles.

What is a neurology consultation?

Typically a neurological exam tests the patient’s vision, strength, coordination, reflexes and sensation.  This information helps the neurologist determine if the problem is in the nervous system. Further tests may be needed to confirm a diagnosis or find a specific treatment.

What do I bring to my consultation?
  • All medication prescriptions and over-the-counter medications
  • MRI or Cat scan(CT) CD/Films pertinent to your visit taken at a non-McFarland Clinic (Important: must be hand carried to your appointment)
  • List of allergies
  • Surgical history

Yes, your primary care physician is very important to your total health care, they are aware of all your health needs.

When is neurosurgery needed?

Your neurologist or primary care physician will refer you to a neurosurgeon if testing determines that surgery could be beneficial in treating your condition.

When is the pain clinic needed?

Your neurologist or primary care physician will refer you to a pain clinic when testing determines that surgery is not beneficial and pain management is the correct treatment for your condition.
