Critical Care Medicine provides inpatient medical care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) whose illness requires close, constant watch.

Any illness that threatens life requires critical care. The most common of these illnesses are shock, respiratory failure and sepsis. Providers work closely with the patient’s primary care provider.

Patients can have a wide variety of complex health problems including:

  • Critical blood stream infections and diseases
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Kidney problems
  • Liver problems
  • Lung problems
