Anesthesiology

The primary responsibility of the anesthesiologist is the care of the patient during and immediately following surgical procedures. This involves visiting the patient prior to surgery, planning an anesthetic procedure, being responsible for the patient’s well-being during the operation, and supervising the recovery of the patient after the operation.

The anesthesiologist serves as a consultant in areas of critical care involving ventilators (breathing machines), resuscitation, invasive (inside the body) monitoring, and other special problems.
