The 6th annual McFarland Clinic Turkey Food Drive kicked off on Friday, December 3. McFarland Clinic and the “Mystery Turkey” rallied together to benefit MICA of Story County. The clinic as a whole donated 6,952 items and an additional cash donation of $1,083.23.
The Turkey Food Drive is a McFarland Clinic Ames tradition. Each year a provider or staff member is voted or self elected to be the Turkey. This year, Dr. Jennifer Killion, adult medicine, was our first female turkey.
Clinical and non-clinical departments were challenged this year to see who would have the highest percentage increase from their 2009 totals of food items donated. Dr. Killion and her Santa helpers stopped at every department and collected items to take to MICA.
“The enthusiasm and support could be felt throughout the entire clinic. As we stopped at each department we were amazed by the large amount of items and the competitive spirit that helped raise our donation total,” said Alex Simon, public relations coordinator at McFarland Clinic, “This year we had a 27% total increase from our donation last year, this just shows the compassion people have for others.”
The day was filled with laughter and genuine care for others. The clinic truly rallied together this year to support those in need.
