Peter Buck, MD and Thomas Greenwald, MD, McFarland Clinic Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, received a top honor as recipients of the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Sports Medicine Award for 2014. Dr. Buck and Dr. Greenwald will be presented their awards during the Boys State Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 14.
Dr. Buck and Greenwald have more than 20 years of experience treating high school, collegiate and weekend warrior athletes in the Ames and surrounding communities. Their dedication to getting athletes back into the games has taken them from the sidelines at Ames High football games, ISU football games to court side at the Big Twelve Basketball tournament.
“Dr. Buck and Dr. Greenwald are highly respected by both Ames High Athletes and visiting teams and coaches. They listen to our athletes and respond with a professional, caring attitude,” says Judge Johnston, Ames Athletic Director. “Not only do they care for the patients, they also are reassuring to the parents when discussing injuries, treatment and rehabilitation.”
“I am honored to be recognized by the Iowa High School Athletic Association for my work with athletes,” says Dr. Buck. “Working with the athletes of Ames High has been a great opportunity to remain active at my alma mater.”
“Sports injuries are devastating to athletes. Being a part of getting athletes back to their peak performance level and seeing them succeed is incredibly rewarding,” says Dr. Greenwald. “It has been great working with Ames High and the IHSAA.”
“Dr. Buck and Dr. Greenwald are extremely flexible and make arrangements to be available when an athlete needs care,” says Johnston, “Ames High Athletics is very very fortunate to have these two doctors on the Ames High team.”
