Betsey Bean, DO Joins McFarland Clinic Orthopedic Hand Surgery

McFarland Clinic is pleased to announce that Betsey Bean, DO has joined our Orthopedic Hand Surgery Department in Ames.

Dr. Bean received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines. She went on to complete her Orthopaedic Surgery Residency from the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. She completed her Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at Wellspan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Dr. Bean joins McFarland Clinic with four years of experience in the United States Army as an orthopaedic surgeon. During her active duty service, she deployed with a forward surgical team to Syria in 2017 caring for wartime orthopaedic injuries. She also completed board certification through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2018.
 
As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Bean specializes in the full spectrum of hand and upper extremity surgery. She repairs acute traumatic injuries of the upper extremity including hand, wrist, and elbow fractures as well as soft tissue injuries involving tendons, nerves, and arteries. She provides reconstructive surgery to correct functional impairments resulting from degenerative and post-traumatic conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow. She also performs anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for glenohumeral arthritis. Additionally, she also offers soft-tissue reconstruction surgery including skin grafts and local flap coverage for hand defects resulting from trauma and cancer.
