Food allergies are an immune system reaction that occurs soon after eating a certain food. Ingestion of the offending food may trigger the sudden release of chemicals, including histamine, resulting in symptoms of an allergic reaction. Symptoms may be mild or severe. In recent years, food allergies have become more common among children and adults.
