November 21, 2011, 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Mary Greeley Medical Center will offer the public an opportunity to get hands-on experience with the latest in minimally invasive, robotic surgical technology on Monday, Nov. 21.

A da Vinci mobile surgical simulator robot will be in the South Prairie room of the Gateway Hotel from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. This interactive event will give people a chance to meet doctors who use the technology, as well as to get behind the controls of the da Vinci unit.
Mary Greeley Medical Center has done surgical procedures with the da Vinci Surgical System since August 2010. Offering state-of-the-art robotic and computer technology, the da Vinci is a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures, including gynecological and urological surgeries. All procedures are done through small incisions on the body which contribute to the small amount of bleeding, minimal pain and quick recovery. Other benefits include fewer complications, less risk of infection and less scarring.
At 4 p.m., McFarland Clinic physicians Dr. Jay Swanson, an obstetrician and gynecologist, and Dr. Damon Dyche, a urologist, will do a brief presentation on how they use the da Vinci system in their surgical practices.
The event is free.
