LASIK
LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery that permanently changes the shape of the cornea and helps correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatisms. LASIK is available at our Ames 1128 Duff Ave. location.
Why Choose LASIK?
LASIK is considered to be the procedure of choice when it comes to refractive surgery. Some benefits of LASIK include brief recovery time, very low infection rate, minimal discomfort and the preservation of the cornea. Plus, it’s a relatively quick procedure. When performed by an experienced surgeon, LASIK only takes 10 minutes for each eye.
The LASIK Candidate
In general, a good candidate for LASIK must be at least 18 years of age, free of eye disease and have a prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses that has been stable for about one year. The candidate must also have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure and would be happy if their vision were greatly improved, even if they had to wear corrective lenses from time to time.
