Cataract Surgery
Part of the aging process, a cataract is the clouding of the eye’s normally clear lens. Cataracts are fairly common and usually occur in both eyes, although not necessarily at the same time. In the past, thick glasses or contact lenses were used to restore vision after the cataract was removed. Now, however, IOLs (intraocular lenses) are used in most cataract surgeries. Cataract exams are available at the Ames 1128 Duff Ave. location. McFarland Clinic ophthalmologists perform cataract surgery at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames and at Boone County Hospital in Boone.
Symptoms
Vision problems, such as glare or difficulty reading fine print, are early signs of cataracts.
