McFarland Clinic officials announced today plans to construct a new North Ames Office located north of the intersection of Bloomington Road and Stange Road. The new McFarland Clinic North Ames Office will be adjacent to the Fareway Store which opened in spring 2009.
The McFarland Clinic North Ames Office will include a family medicine practice and physical therapy services. Construction of the 15,600 square foot facility will begin this October with completion anticipated by September 2010.
The McFarland Family Medicine North Office will accommodate six primary care providers with laboratory and radiology services on site.
“Initially our new North Ames Office will open with three providers from our existing family medicine sites here in Ames,” said Steve Koger, Chief Executive Officer. “Then grow to accommodate up to 6 providers with the possibility for additional expansion in the future.”
Dr. Matthew Baughman, from Family Medicine East, and Dr. Donald Skinner, joining Family Medicine West this November formerly from McFarland Carroll Office, will be the first two physicians in the new office location along with Rhonda Rippey, ARNP. Recruitment continues for additional providers.
“Our priority as a multi-specialty clinic is to ensure access and coordination of care for our area residents,” said Dr. Michael Kitchell, McFarland Neurologist and president of the McFarland Board of Directors. “The expansion of primary care services in Ames with the opening of our third family medicine office is fitting to our commitment to broaden access to physician care.”
Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation services will also open in the new McFarland North Ames Office. This will be a fourth location site for McFarland physical therapy in Ames.
“We are excited to offer another site location for patients in need of rehabilitation services,” said Chris Hanfelt, Physical Therapy facility manager. “Our existing Physical Therapy/Sports Medicine office in Somerset will continue to remain open in addition to the new North Ames office. We are planning initially to have three therapists at the North Ames location.”
The new McFarland Clinic North Ames office will also be the first McFarland facility constructed to accommodate the latest in digital operations for the practice. “This is the first time we have ever constructed or arranged for a medical office without a medical records room,” said Steve Koger. “With the implementation of our electronic health record throughout our clinics, there is no need for a medical record room to contain paper charts.”
The exam rooms at the North Ames Office have been designed to accommodate patients and their guests as well as the presence of computers to record electronically the patient encounter. “Radiology images in North Ames will also be completely digital,” said Koger. “Our providers will review the digital images through computer access.”
