Rheumatology
Rheumatologists are physicians (Internists) who specialize in the evaluation and treatment of diseases that affect the musculoskeletal system. Most commonly, this involves treatment of various forms of arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, etc.) as well as problems of pain around joints (fibromyalgia, tendinitis, bursitis). Rheumatologists also specialize in the treatment of connective tissue diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, scleroderma, polymyositis), metabolic bone disease (Paget’s disease, osteoporosis) and vasculitis.
