Finding new and effective drug treatments is a big part of medicine today. That’s why McFarland Clinic has developed a Clinical Research Department. Jeb Lee, Executive Director of Clinical Operations, believes this addition to the clinic is important to patients for a variety of reasons.
“Our patients will receive access to the latest drugs available and cutting-edge treatments,” Lee says. “This is especially important when current treatment options have proven to be inadequate.” Lee added that the patient’s condition is monitored very closely by the physician during a research study, with frequent tests and physicals which may catch otherwise overlooked health conditions.
The patient’s understanding of their condition will also improve by participating in clinical research. Ultimately, patients are assisting in the advancement of medicine as the effectiveness of new drugs and treatments are tested. Patients who successfully enroll in a study may receive compensation for their participation, and study-related visits and drugs are provided at no cost.
Jolene Frette, Coordinator for the McFarland Center for Clinical Research, said that an objective of conducting clinical research at the clinic is to give McFarland physicians and patients access to the newest and otherwise unavailable drugs and treatments in a carefully-monitored environment that complies with all federal regulations pertaining to research.
The McFarland Clinical Research Department is currently enrolling patients in the following studies:
